About the CBGThe National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance of Vaccine Preventable Diseases (University of Sydney) and University of New South Wales (UNSW), in collaboration with the National Centre for Epidemiology and Population Health (ANU), The National Centre in HIV Epidemiology and Clinical Research (UNSW), the School of Population Health (University of Melbourne), The Department of International Health (Curtin University of Technology) and the Victorian Infectious Diseases Service (Royal Melbourne Hospital) has won an NH&MRC grant for capacity building (CBG) in population health for mathematical modelling of infectious diseases. The major aim of this grant is to establish a comprehensive program of research, based on mathematical modelling, to aid the understanding of and provide policy support for the control of infectious diseases, now and well into the future. It is envisioned that this will involve the integration of mathematical modeling with policy and public health service delivery, the completion of about 20 specific research studies under three major infectious disease control themes of national importance and the establishment of an international reputation for the team. The three themes under which research will be carried out are Bioterrorism and emerging Infectious Diseases (preparedness and control), Nosocomial infections and Control of drug resistance and New methods to use data to improve transmission models. Details of research projects and funding successes can be found on the research page. CBG publications are here. The CBG has also established the Network of Infectious Disease Modellers of Australia (NIDMA), with a dedicated email list, to aid communication, collaboration and peer-support. More information about NIDMA is available here. Several workshops have been organised by the CBG group with a focus ranging from research to training.
