Immunisation coverage maps using ACIR dataThe coverage estimates presented in the following maps were calculated using the 'cohort' method described in the O'Brien et al paper (Communicable Diseases Intelligence 1998; 22(3): 36-37). Normally, a 3 month birth cohort is used in the calculation of coverage, however using a 3 month cohort for the calculation of coverage for the maps would have led to a large number of missing observations for geographical areas that had small child populations. Hence, two 12-month birth cohorts were chosen to calculate the coverage estimates using ACIR data as at 30 September 2005. 'Fully immunised' coverage at 12 months of age was calculated using the cohort of children born 1 July 2003 to 30 June 2004. 'Fully immunised' coverage at 24 months of age was calculated using the cohort of children born 1 July 2002 to 30 June 2003. Coverage estimates were calculated for ABS-defined Statistical Subdivisions (SSDs) for areas outside capital cities and for ABS-defined Statistical Local Areas (SLAs) for areas within capital cities.
The maps were created using MapInfo Professional (v 7) mapping software. |
