Vaccine Trials

The following vaccine trials have been or are being carried out.

  1. Varicella vaccine in non-immune health care workers. (Reference 33) Follow-up will be for 10 years.
  2. Varicella vaccine in non-immune household contacts of children with cancer or leukaemia. (Reference 44).
  3. Pentavalent vaccine in infants. Immunogenicity and reactogenicity of diphtheria-tetanus-acellular pertussis-HBV and Hib vaccines administered simultaneously in opposite limbs or combined in a single injection.
  4. Pentavalent booster in toddlers. Evaluation of the priming in terms of antibody persistence and immunological memory induced by the pentavalent vaccine.
  5. Adult diphtheria-tetanus-acellular pertussis vaccine in adults, with follow-up for 4 years. (Reference 64).
  6. Measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) and varicella vaccine in infants, with follow-up for 4 years.(Reference 114).
  7. Combined hepatitis A and B 2-dose flexible schedule in adolescents, with follow-up for 3 years.
  8. Parainfluenza type 3 nasal vaccine, phase II trial in infants.
  9. 9-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine in infants.
  10. Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine in children with the nephrotic syndrome. This study is examining the immunogenicity and reactogenicity of the pneumococcal conjugate vaccine in children with the nephrotic syndrome, as well as the effect of steroids and immunosuppressants on the antibody response.
  11. A double-blind randomised phase III clinical trial comparing DTPa (Infanrix) with dTpa (Boostrix) given to children aged 4-6 years who experienced a large injection site reaction following the 4th dose of DTPa. This study will compare the immunogenicity and reactogenicity of the two vaccines, and also aims to identify serological and cellular markers that might predict recurrence of injection site reactions.
